If we want to preserve the ocean and the world in which we live, it's going to take a bit of hands-on involvement from all of us. Volunteering is one of the best ways to get involved in this process and better know your community. By donating your time and talents you can help organizations accomplish things they wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. EVERYONE can help.

Hanauma BayHere in Hawaii there are a number of organizations with which we volunteer. Hanauma Bay and the Waikiki Aquarium are two of our favorites. At Hanauma Bay volunteers perform a variety of functions--assisting in the visitor welcoming center, showing the video to guests, and assisting beachgoers at the beach kiosk down the hill. The Aquarium has opportunities for individuals wanting to educate children and Waikiki Aquariumadults alike at the Edge Of The Reef exhibit. There are also positions in the Natural Selection Gift Shop. We also enjoy volunteering with the Hawaii Humane Society as Japanese interpreters and photographers. There are many positions with the humane society--cat socializers, dog walkers, dog trainers, groomers, etc.

SharkThrough volunteering with these organizations we have also had the opportunity to help out with other projects and groups. Over the years we have gotten to work on various projects involving whitetip reef sharks, green sea turtles, Hawaiian monk seals, rice corals, and even water quality.
